They are the underlings! Underpaid, underestimated, and under-appreciated. They are assigned the grunt work that no one else has time or desire to do in exchange for a letter of recommendation, school credit, or simply a new experience. Making copies, filing and fetching coffee become skills at which interns quickly learn to excel, all the while gleaning everything they can through observation of their work environment.
That's why when a really good one comes along, they deserve to be celebrated as they depart to their next adventure!
